UGA Sierra Student Coalition’s Beyond Coal campaign will be hosting an end of the year event, “The True Cost of Coal,” to bring together members of the community, university faculty and administrators, local business owners, and students to talk more about the issue of coal in Athens and learn about clean energy solutions.
The event will include a screening of “The Last Mountain”, a moving documentary that reveals the battle to protect the health and environment of local communities from the destructive power of the coal industry. Following the movie will be a reception and educational panel at 7:00 pm. Panelists will focus on public health, environmental, and political implications of burning coal, and the future of renewable solutions.
